This report details research into the effectiveness of integration controls for mini-split heat pumps in homes with existing electric-resistance heating to enhance energy savings. The study monitored three retrofitted homes in Minnesota, revealing significant energy cost savings and demonstrating that the mini-splits performed well even in extreme cold, though the homeowners expressed satisfaction with the heat pumps while showing indifference towards the integration controls, suggesting they might be unnecessary for cost-conscious households.
